Ceasefire Ignored: Israel and Hezbollah Continue Strikes on Day 64 of Conflict

Despite a temporary, U.S.-brokered ceasefire agreement between Israel and the Lebanese government, active hostilities have persisted into Day 64 of the renewed conflict as Israeli forces and Hezbollah militants continue to exchange heavy fire.

The fragile truce, initially implemented in mid-April 2026 to facilitate peace negotiations, has been repeatedly fractured on the ground. Israel maintains that its ongoing airstrikes, evacuation orders, and ground operations in southern Lebanon are necessary self-defense measures targeting militant infrastructure and weapons caches.

In retaliation, Hezbollah—which is not a formal signatory to the state-level ceasefire—has launched sustained drone and missile attacks against Israeli positions, citing the demolition of southern Lebanese villages as a blatant violation of the agreement. As both sides trade blame and international mediators scramble to salvage the diplomatic process, the continued violence threatens to entirely unravel the truce and draw the region deeper into the broader, ongoing conflict
